¡El Español Es Fantástico! Technology Rocks!!
The number of Spanish-speakers in the United States is growing every day! Did you know that now the United States is second only to Mexico in the number of Spanish speakers?!? That's incredible! Because of this trend, employers want to hire people with some background in Spanish. If you are interested in a career in health care, law enforcement, insurance, hotel/restaurant management, and many other areas, then learning Spanish can set you apart from the others! Most colleges and universities require Spanish or another foreign language as part of their degree programs. The requirements are different for each college or university, but taking a language in high school can eliminate or greatly reduce your need to take a language in college. Chisholm High School offers courses in Spanish 1 and 2 this year.
Technology Classes -
Without some level of knowledge of technology in today's world, we would be pretty lost! Kids need training in keyboarding, word processing and presentation software to be successful in high school, college and technical training courses. Most employers require us to use some sort of technology on a day-to-day basis. Students in my 7th and 8th grade introductory technology courses will learn computer basics, keyboarding methods, effective and safe Internet searching and also topics on digital citizenship, cyber-bullying and plagiarism. These topics lay the groundwork for technology success in the years to come!
The new elective course for the 2016-2017 school year is called Basic Computer Applications. This course is an elective class that gives students the opportunity to explore computer coding, 3D modeling, electronic book authoring and designing a Web page, among other topics.
